Pirkanmaa Baroque Ensemble
Due to the current travelling restrictions Drottningholms barockensemble’s visit will be postponed to 2021. Instead we will hear Pirkanmaa Baroque Ensemble which consists of musicians specialized in old music and its principles and who all one way or another have connections to Tampere and Pirkanmaa. Most of the musicians work mainly elsewhere in Finland or Europe, but the goal with Pirkanmaa Baroque is to gather them all together to play pearls of the baroque music in Pirkanmaa’s lovely halls, churches, pubs and mansions.
The program "The Queens’ Rome" was born as a proposal from Tampere’s museum centre Vapriikki and its exhibition Ostia – A Gate to Rome. The concert will take place on October 16 as part of the exhibition. The exhibition enlightens Roman life during the ancient Rome and the music of the concert takes us to 17th century Rome and the elite with its palaces, especially via the patron work of the queens, Queen Christina of Sweden and Queen Marie Casimire of Poland. They belonged to the biggest protectors of the Roman culture during that time, ans especially Christina not only participated with funds but also in the artistic and philosophical work. Many of the time’s most appreciated composers visited the queens’ circles for both longer and shorter periods. During the concert we will hear a chosen all stars group of exactly these composers.
