Johann Sebastian Bach's cantatas are cornerstones of the Lutheran musical heritage, a broad collection of musically and spiritually impressive works. Of Bach's about 350 cantatas 209 have been preserved. Nowadays cantatas are only seldom performed in their original environment, the church service, although cantatas bring them a special depth.
One part of FiBO's three-year project Juurilla (At the Roots) in Kaarela is the cantata project, which studies roots through Bach's music and brings the wonderful pieces closer to the listeners and experiencers of today. The cooperation project between the Finnish Baroque Orchestra and the parishes of Kannelmäki and Oulunkylä culminates in a concert with three cantatas by Bach: BWV 32, 155 and 156. The audience is welcome to join the song in the chorales that end the cantatas. The chorales are practised before the concert starting at 5.15 pm. Practise recordings, sheet music and more information can be found on the più-pages (at the moment only in Finnish) on FiBO's web site.
Duration: 1 h (no intermission)
There will be cantata performances also in two masses before the concert: on Sunday 19.1.2020 at 10 am in Kannelmäki Church (BWV 155) and on Sunday 26.1.2020 at 10 am in Oulunkylä Church (BWV 156).
The audience can join in singing the chorale parts of the cantata masses, which are rehearsed together before the mass at 9.30 am. More information (in Finnish) can be found on the più-pages.
