Johann Sebastian Bach has indisputably taken his place in the canon of music literature. Important religious holidays are constantly celebrated with his music. Over time Bach’s character has developed to a certain kind of modern saint, who is depicted as a genius and virtuoso, diligent and humble, and a role model when it comes to the christian values. A respect like this has yet no other composer gained, and even today Bach’s importance for the music audience is very strong.
After decades of performing Bach’s grand pieces like the passions, oratorios and masses, this has become a set tradition for the choir Cantores Minores. The boy choir belongs to Finland’s most important and diligent Bach performers. “For boy choirs Bach’s music is a fundamental part of the repertoire, and the boys grow along with his music. For the boys Bach seems to be a favourite”, says the choir’s artistic director Hannu Norjanen.
During this traditional concert on All Saints’ Eve, the choir performs motets by the master composer in different line-ups together with FiBO Players. The concert is conducted by Hannu Norjanen.
