A Baroque festival ensemble from Mallorca
Antoni Lliteres Carrió, The Spanish Baroque and Europe is a concert proposal in which works by the Mallorcan composer Antoni Lliteres (Artà, 1673 – Madrid, 1747), recently recovered from the Archive of the Cathedral of Guatemala and edited by the musicologist Antoni Pizà (New York City University, Foundation for Iberian Music) will be brought to new life.
During the evening the music of Lliteres is put at stake with its European contemporaries Francesco Bartolomeo Conti and Georg Philipp Telemann, in order to get a greater appreciation of its uniqueness as a representative of the mixture of both italian and iberian styles.
The concert aims to be another piece in the dynamization of Ibero-American musicological studies and has been modeled in the framework of the Early Music Festivals of Colònia de Sant Pere (Mallorca), Es Migjorn Gran (Menorca) and Palma de Mallorca. The Ensemble of the Early Music Week consists of young specialists in early music led by the american violinist Barry Sargent (Orquesta barroca de Sevilla) and supervised by musicologists Jordi Alomar and Antoni Pizà. This project has been made possible thanks to the support of the Institut d'Estudis Baleàrics (Government of the Balearic Islands).
