The Cathedral Cantata, organised for the first time in the spring of 2019, was immensely popular, and it will be held for the second time in September in Helsinki Cathedral in cooperation with Helsinki Cathedral Parish, its musicians, and the Finnish Baroque Orchestra. In the Cathedral Cantatas, Cantores Minores (just like its German role model, the St. Thomas Boys Choir in Leipzig) performs choral music and a cantata by Johann Sebastian Bach chosen for the occasion, from the organ gallery of the Cathedral. Bible readings of the day, organ music and hymns are also included.
For the occasion this fall, the choir has chosen Bach’s cantata Es erhub sich ein Streit (BWV 19).
