What would Christmas be without Bach? The composer’s majestic Christmas piece is performed again this Christmas.
Cantores Minores’ Christmas Oratorio has been a beloved annual tradition for 40 years now. Cantors Minores presented Johann Sebastian Bach's Christmas Oratorio for the first time in honor of its 15th anniversary in 1967 under Professor Heinz Hofmann (conductor 1962-1987). The piece began to be performed regularly in 1981, when Hannu-Ilari Lampila, among others, commented: “The Christmas Oratorio is much better suited for the young boys than an opera choir.” According to tradition, also this Christmas the cantatas 1–3 of the impressive Christmas Oratorio by Bach will be performed.
