Last year, Suomen Laulu was preparing for the concerts of its 120th anniversary, when the corona pandemic closed Finland. Due to the pandemic, all but one of the concerts were missed, and the format of the familiar weekly choir rehearsals changed. Now, remote and hybrid rehearsals are a life left behind, and the singers are finally preparing to perform Georg Friedrich Händel’s Messiah oratorio.
What better way to celebrate the choir’s 121-year-old journey and the end of covid restrictions than Händel’s glorious Messiah! Händel once composed the oratorio into Easter music, but at least since the early 20th century it has become customary to perform this oratorio during Christmas, and in many cultures the Messiah oratorio is an established part of the December concert offering.
Duration: 3 h (incl. 2 short intermissions)
