The Helsinki Cathedral boys' choir Cantores Minores returns to the concert arenas spectacularly by organizing the prestigious Helsinki Bach Week at the turn of October – November already for the 12th time. During the festival - which had to be postponed from 2020 due to the corona pandemic - two concerts by J.S. Bach will be heard in concerts at the Helsinki Cathedral: the dramatic St. John Passion and the monumental Mass in B minor.
Over the decades, Cantores Minores has formed a solid tradition of performing Bach’s major works, passions, oratorios, and masses, which has only been slightly shaken by the corona pandemic. The Boys' Choir is undoubtedly one of the most important and diligent performers of Bach's music in our country. Nor is it a coincidence that, for 55 years, Cantores Minores has been a meritorious organizer of a festival dedicated specifically to Bach’s music. “For a boys’ choir, Bach’s music is a central part of the repertoire and the boys grow with Bach’s music. For the boys, Bach seems to be the number one and the Mass in B minor the biggest hit”, says choir conductor Hannu Norjanen.
