EI VIELÄ VALMIS
Continuing its long-term collaboration with the Finnish Baroque Orchestra, the Helsinki Chamber Choir takes Mozart’s immortal Requiem on tour in Finland. Conductor Nils Schweckendiek has chosen to perform Mozart scholar Robert Levin’s completion of the work, which – amongst other improvements to the traditional Süssmayr version – includes a newly-composed large-scale Amen fugue based on sketches in Mozart’s manuscript. This is heard at the conclusion of the famous Lacrimosa.
The programme also features music by Jan Dismas Zelenka, performed in collaboration with a local choir at each stop on the tour. A Czech-born contemporary of Johann Sebastian Bach, Zelenka spent much of his working life in Dresden. His Credo in D minor dates from 1740. Estonian master-composer Arvo Pärt’s Prayer completes the programme with a contemporary view on spirituality. The tour forms part of the Lähelle project generously sponsored by the Finnish Cultural Foundation.
