A programme of classical works was commissioned from a Finnish baroque orchestra for two venues in Germany, and of course, they also want to perform the same concert for a Finnish audience!
Earth, Water, Air and Fire – a concert featuring orchestral suites and concertos by the most famous masters of the Baroque period, listens, feels and explores concepts of the classical elements. The moods of the music of Bach, Vivaldi and Telemann vary between grounding, enchanting currents, frost and burning.
The air is represented by Bach's beloved orchestral suite No. 2 in B minor (BWV 1067), in which the flute takes on a solo role. The latest of the suites may have been completed during the Leipzig years. It includes, for example, the well-known Badinerie and local color of the polonaise.
Vivaldi's Bassoon Concerto in G major (RV 493) brings us to the surface of the earth. Although Venice stood supported on the sea, the music of the music director of the Pietà orphanage, known as the "Red Priest", took root throughout the continent. The noble, dark and supple bassoon shows many of its sides in the work. It is also supported by parts from Bach's early orchestral suite No. 1 in C major (BWV 1066).
Telemann composed his Water Music (TWV 55: C3) in 1732 for the 100th anniversary of the Admiralty, which was responsible for Hamburg's maritime defenses and waterways. The beloved child has many names: the French-style orchestral suite is also known as Hamburger Ebb und Fluth, Musica marittima , and Water Overture . Telemann's colorful music depicts both calm and storm, and presents the water gods of both Greek and Roman mythology.
Bach's Violin Concerto No. 2 in E major (BWV 1042), which represents fire, probably dates back to the composer's Weimar years. This warm-hearted classic is full of fire, virtuosity, and a sense of well-being.
Duration: 1 h 45 min (incl. intermission)
At a pre-concert event at the House of Nobility on 20 March from 6 to 6.30 pm, the essay collection Vaelluksella vanhan musiikin maailmassa by FiBO’s founder Anssi Mattila will be launched, and the concert programme will be briefly introduced. On this occasion, the event will exceptionally take place in the concert hall rather than in the library.
The Järvenpää concert is organized in co-operation between FiBO, Järvenpää parish and Järvenpää's cultural and event services.
The concerts in Järvenpää and Frankfurt will feature a smaller ensemble than the one in Helsinki, Espoo and Herrenchiemsee.
NOTE: We are expanding the use of the digital hand-held programme in the Residency Series at the House of Nobility, but we are not giving up on paper hand-held programmes completely. The digital programme can be found on the concert website no later than the week of the concert. If you want a paper programme, you can buy it in advance at a lower price (3 €) when purchasing a ticket. The programme is available at the House of Nobility under the name. If purchased on site, the hand-held programme costs six euros.
