PROGRAMME
11 am FiBO: Gentle Overture
Telemann, possibly the most prolific composer ever, wrote many overtures. We will hear the overture called La Lyra, referring to the ancient string instrument of Apollo, the god of prophecy, healing, poetry, and music. The music of the suite contains remarkable tenderness.
11.30 am Viuhka Emsemble
Performers from the Senior Baroque Workshop of Collegium ry
12.15 pm Degenerates & Viuluvei
Musicians from the Northeast Helsinki baroque ensemble Tapanila Consort the Degenerates, and students from music school ViuluVei
1 pm Baroque Dancing for All!
Learn baroque social dances guided by dance master Petri Myllynen. The dances are accompanied by musicians of Tapanila Consort the Degenerates, and students from music school ViuluVei.
1.45 pm Bach, Händel, and Quantz with Small Ensembles
Performers from the Senior Baroque Workshop of Collegium ry
2.15 pm FiBO & Linnéa Sundfær Casserly: Butterfly Wings
Italian music from the 1600s will set a light summer mood like a butterfly. Barbara Strozzi's songs often include winks and flirtations. Claudio Monteverdi's Quel sguardo sdegnosetto marvels at the captivating power of an admiring glance. We will hear airy music from Antonio Vivaldi, and our singer also proves to be a skilled recorder player. The programme also includes danceable instrumental music by Tarquinio Merula and Biagio Marini.
3 pm Park Workout: Friskis & Svettis
The exercise club Friskis & Svettis will lead an open, gently-paced park workout at the Baroque Picnic event, accompanied by baroque music. This diverse session includes a light warm-up, exercises supporting body control and mobility, as well as stretching and relaxation. The session lasts approximately 45 minutes.
3.45 pm Children's Baroque: The Musician and the Nightingale
The Musician and the Nightingale is a storytelling concert for the whole family, where a beautifully singing nightingale leads the king's court musician on a musical forest adventure. The performance features animal and nature-themed baroque music, and familiar animal-themed songs are sung together. During the concert, the audience will become familiar with the baroque instruments played by the performers.
4.20 pm FiBO & Linnéa Sundfær Casserly: Wandering in the Greenery
The program includes English baroque music from beloved composers Händel and Purcell, as well as the lesser-known Elizabeth Turner, whose music was familiar to Händel. The pieces marvel at nature: the sounds of birds, air spirits, roses and floral splendor, and the mystery of the night. Purcell's instrumental dances feature imaginative characters from monkeys to green men and haymakers. This music also has the power to lull and awaken!
