CONCERT PROGRAMME AND ENSEMBLES

If you’ve already seen Olavi Uusivirta at his unrestrained club gigs, on the big festival stages and in stylish concert halls, it’s time to come and experience this 360-degree spectacle!

The music of Olavi Uusivirta will sound bigger than ever before on the concert hall stage of the Music Centre, as his usually four members strong band is expanded into a giant ensemble featuring several dozen musicians.

Guitarist Timo Kämäräinen will also perform alongside Olavi Uusivirta as a soloist. They will be accompanied by three orchestras: the Chamber Orchestra Avanti, UMO Helsinki Jazz Orchestra and the Finnish Baroque Orchestra. The ensemble will be conducted by Eero Lehtimäki.

The core of the concert is Olavi Uusivirta’s well-known hits, reimagined from different angles, spun a full 360 degrees and infused with elements of Baroque, jazz and contemporary music. The new arrangements are by Mikko Hassinen, Timo Hietala, Timo Kämäräinen, Marzi Nyman, Sanna Salmenkallio, Arttu Takalo, Janne Toivonen, Tara Valkonen and Tapio Viitasaari.

This concert brings together extremes from the minimalist to the maximalist and from darkness to light.

The concert is part of the Chamber Orchestra Avanti, UMO Helsinki Jazz Orchestra and the Finnish Baroque Orchestra’s joint concert series AUF, produced in cooperation with the Music Centre. The top orchestras representing different genres invite listeners to explore a diverse range of musical delicacies.
