Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart’s Requiem is without doubt one of the most well-known compositions of Western art music. The reason for its popularity is surely the heavenly sounds, but also the many stories and legends that relate to the piece. As is often told, Mozart did not finish his Requiem before his death, and after many turns, the piece was finalised by Mozart’s student Franz Xavier Süssmayr.

In the latter half of the 20th century, several composers and musicologists modified the piece and wrote their own altered versions. In this concert, we will hear Robert D. Levin’s vision of the piece. The clearest difference to Süssmayr’s version is the Amen fugue that is played after the Lacrimosa.

To start the concert, the orchestra with soloist, mezzo-soprano Essi Luttinen, will set the ambiance for the Requiem by performing Mozart’s two-piece concert aria Misero me… Misero pargoletto.

The Baroque Labyrinths Festival is the only festival for old music in Turunmaa. It offers various and high standard concerts in the most beautiful archipelago in the world. The yearly festival is organised in September-October in Parainen.

ATTENTION! The concert will start one hour later, at 19:00 (7:00 pm).

Duration: 1 h 15 min (no intermission)
