The Christmas concert in the House of Nobility residency series celebrates the light shining in the darkness with the profound music of the early baroque composers of the German-speaking area. The concert features Christmas music for vocal and instrumental ensembles by Johann Sebastian Bach’s predecessors Dietrich Buxtehude, Johann Schelle, Johann Rosenmüller and Franz Tunder.
Buxtehude’s Christmas cantata Das neugeborne Kindelein for four voices and strings as well as Tunder’s song Ein kleines Kindelein for soprano and strings exalt the miracle of the new-born child. Rosenmüller’s and Weichlein’s sensual instrumental music puts the listener in an intent and calming mood during the darkest time of the year.
The Finnish Baroque Orchestra welcomes the harpsichordist, singer and composer Elam Rotem from Basel as its guest. He is the director of the award-winning vocal ensemble Profeti della Quinta, and he is also known as the creator of the web site earlymusicsources.com, an essential resource for performers, scholars and enthusiasts of early music. In this concert Rotem will perform both as singer and harpsichordist.
Duration: 1 h 45 min (incl. intermission)
FiBO's artistic planner Anthony Marini introduces the concert at the House of Nobility on 9 December from 5 pm to 5.30 pm.
