Pierre-Ambroise Choderlos de Laclos’ (1741-1803) Dangerous Liaisons (1782) is a classic of the letter novels and a naughty but intellectual masterpiece of its time. Actor Niklas Häggblom, singers, and FiBO's wind ensemble dramatize the novel's seduction and intrigue with excerpts from six operas by Joseph Haydn (1732-1809).
The protagonists of Laclos’ novel, Vicomte de Valmont and Marquis de Merteuil, are mirror images of each other, unscrupulous manipulators. In addition, the young Cécile de Volanges, the virtuous Madame de Tourvel, and Cécile’s music teacher, knight Danceny, are involved in a game of jealousy, shame and unpredictable love. The irresponsible use of power by the liberins does not lead to the desired results, but its charm has produced ever new arrangements of the work. FiBO's performance is also based on Dangerous Liaisons (1988) directed by Stephen Frears.
In the history of music, Joseph Haydn is often truncated as a developer of symphony, string quartet and oratorio, but he also composed 13 Italian operas. The arias, ensembles and orchestral numbers of operas composed mainly for the court of Esterházy are exhilarating treasures of classicism: a mastery of powers and characters.
Before his great success, Officer Laclos, on the other hand, was known as a developer of artillery bullets and a librettist for an opera by Joseph Bologne. Laclos actively threw himself into the turmoil of the revolutionary period, wrote for the education of women, and lived more societally correct than his novel characters.
The wind arrangements for the dramatized concert are the handwriting of Jani Sunnarborg. The languages of the performance are both Finnish and Swedish.
Pauliina Fred introduces the concert at the House of Nobility on October 30th from 5–5.30 pm. She discuss with Essi Luttinen and Jani Sunnarborg.
The Järvenpää concert is organized in co-operation between FiBO, Järvenpää's cultural and event services and Järvenpää parish.
