Finnish Baroque Orchestra
For the first time ever, the popular Opera Teatime Dance hosted by the Finnish National Opera and Ballet will feature Baroque dances! The dances will be led by Baroque dance master Petri Myllynen, with music performed by the Finnish Baroque Orchestra (FiBO).
During the first half, participants will learn and dance English country dances to the captivating music of Henry Purcell. During the intermission, soprano Hanna Rantala will perform well-known arias by Purcell and Georg Friedrich Händel, giving dancers a chance to rest and enjoy both the music and some refreshments. After the break, the focus shifts to the French minuet, danced to the music of Jean-Philippe Rameau and Johann Caspar Ferdinand Fischer.
About a month before the Teatime Dances, this page will feature dance tutorial videos for anyone wishing to familiarise themselves with Baroque dance steps in advance.
The Tea Dances are the first public event in the newly initiated collaboration between the Finnish National Opera and Ballet and FiBO, aimed at developing regular, high-quality Baroque opera activities in Finland. You can read more about the collaboration and FiBO’s major new grant on the FiBO and Finnish National Opera websites.
